Explaining how Literating India Foundation uses cookies and browser storage in compliance with the DPDP Act 2023.
1. What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. Similar technologies include HTML5 Local Storage and Session Storage, which allow web browsers to store information locally.
Literating India Foundation utilizes a privacy-first approach: we strictly limit storage to necessary operational tokens and respect your affirmative choices.
2. How We Categorize Cookies
We organize cookies into four clear categories:
A. Strictly Necessary Cookies (Always Active)
These cookies are essential for the website to function securely. They cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in to our volunteer portal, or completing event registrations.
B. Functional Preferences (Opt-In)
These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalization, such as remembering your preferred reading progress position, text size adjustments, or localized UI preferences.
C. Aggregated Performance & Analytics (Opt-In)
These cookies help us count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the reach of our digital literacy modules. All information collected is aggregated and anonymized. Note: As of September 2026, the Foundation does not deploy third-party advertising or commercial tracking cookies.
D. External Media & Embeds (Opt-In)
These cookies allow interactive third-party content (such as embedded YouTube tutorials or interactive maps showing community center locations) to display within our pages. If you do not accept this category, interactive embeds will require on-demand activation before loading.
3. Cookies & Storage Keys Used on this Site
| Storage Key | Category | Provider | Purpose & Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| lif_cookie_consent_v1 | Necessary | Literating India | Stores your granular cookie consent preferences. Expires in 365 days. |

4. Managing Cookies in Your Browser
In addition to our interactive Cookie Settings modal, most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their browser settings. You can configure your browser to reject all cookies or notify you when a cookie is placed:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies.
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Enhanced Tracking Protection.
- Apple Safari: Settings → Privacy → Prevent cross-site tracking / Block all cookies.
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
Please note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may impact the security and proper functioning of event check-in systems.
